Burkina-Faso/Russia: Terrorist attack in Moscow/President Ibrahim Traoré condemns the attack and expresses his sympathy to Putin

On Friday, March 22, Russia fell victim to a terrorist attack claimed by the Islamic State. Ouagadougou, whose cooperative relations with Moscow have strengthened in recent months, condemns this cowardly and barbaric act and expresses solidarity with the Russian people and their President.

In the evening of March 22, armed individuals, estimated to be 2 or 5 in number, stormed the Crocus City Hall and opened fire on the crowd, resulting in several casualties.

According to preliminary reports, the attack claimed at least 60 lives and left around a hundred injured.

After killing innocent civilians, the assailants then set fire to the venue before fleeing the scene. Firefighters promptly responded to extinguish the blaze.

In a show of sympathy for the Russian people’s grief following this attack, the President of the Burkinabe revolution, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, expressed solidarity with the Russian Federation, strongly condemning the terrorist act and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.

«In this painful circumstance, I extend my deepest condolences to President Vladimir Putin and the Russian people», stated the Burkinabe government in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo.

Burkinabe authorities «firmly condemn this heinous and inhumane act that has cost the lives of innocent citizens and injured many others» and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded.

The response from the Burkinabe transition reflects its solidarity and empathy towards the victims of this attack and their families.

This despicable terrorist event reinforces the commitment of the government and the Burkinabe people to work with the Russian people «and all peoples who cherish peace and freedom, to build a world rid of terror and blind violence».
