DRC: Conflict in North Kivu/ Félix Tsisékédi calls for general mobilisation

Faced with escalating offensives by the M23 in North Kivu, President Félix Tsisékédi is focusing on mobilizing the general populace. According to a statement from the government spokesperson and Minister of Communication and Media, the Congolese President has reiterated this call.

«The President has reiterated his call for general mobilization in the face of aggression and the challenges to our country’s peace and security, which are crucial for our economic development», announced Patrick Muyaya, the government spokesperson, as reported by the news site “L’Objectif”.

He emphasized the need for the government to redouble efforts at all levels to defeat the enemy and transition from war to lasting peace.

It’s important to note that the security situation in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo is a top priority for the President, who is actively working to resolve the region’s challenges.

At the extraordinary summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) troika on March 23 in Lusaka, Zambia, participants reviewed the situation in North Kivu, where the SAMIRDC troops are supporting the Congolese armed forces, as outlined by Patrick Muyaya.

The recent escalation of M23 offensives, a rebellion formed in 2012 by army deserters, has strained relations between the DRC and Rwanda, with Kinshasa and the UN accusing Kigali of supporting M23 fighters.
