Strengthening cross-border ties: Restoring understanding between Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire

In a gesture of reconciliation and renewal, Presidents Ibrahim Traoré and Alassane Ouattara facilitated a meeting between the Defense Ministers of Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast in Niangologo. This gathering marks a crucial turning point in the relations between the two countries, reaffirming their commitment to mutually beneficial cooperation.

Ivorian Minister of Defense, Téné Birahima Ouattara, expressed optimism about the future of relations between the two nations, highlighting that this meeting signifies a fresh start after months of tensions.

 He emphasized the importance of resolving past disputes to move forward together towards a more harmonious future.

Brigadier General Kassoum Coulibaly, his Burkinabe counterpart, shared this optimism, emphasizing the need for strengthened cooperation to combat terrorism and criminal activities along their common border.

He called for maintaining an open dialogue and working hand in hand to ensure the security and prosperity of the region.

Previous tensions, especially related to cross-border incidents, were addressed with a shared determination to overcome them.

Both ministers stressed the importance of fraternity between the peoples of the two states and pledged to promote a relationship based on trust and mutual respect.

By showcasing Ivory Coast’s solidarity with Burkina Faso in its fight against terrorism, Minister Téné Birahima Ouattara applauded the successes achieved by Burkina Faso in this challenging battle.

He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting its neighbor in this crucial fight.

This meeting in Niangologo signifies much more than mere diplomatic discussion; it symbolizes a genuine commitment to peace, security, and regional development.
