Burkina Faso: A promising 18% increase in cereal production forecast for 2024/2025

Burkina Faso is poised for a remarkable boost in its cereal production during the 2024/2025 agricultural season. Preliminary estimates from the Ministry of Agriculture forecast a harvest of 6,077,227 tonnes, reflecting an 18% increase compared to the previous season.

This achievement stems from a combination of key factors, including government initiatives to enhance access to agricultural inputs, the expansion of cultivated land, and awareness campaigns promoting improved farming techniques.

Favorable rainfall across many regions has further contributed to maximizing yields.

Under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the Burkinabe government aims to leverage this growth to strengthen food security, reduce reliance on imported goods, and boost farmers’ incomes.

This effort aligns with a broader strategy to position agriculture as a cornerstone of the national economy.

The anticipated rise in cereal production offers promising prospects for rural communities, where livelihoods are predominantly tied to agriculture.

It also bolsters the nation’s goal of achieving greater food self-sufficiency amidst ongoing climatic and economic challenges.
