AES / Meeting of Alliance ministers: A Malian delegation in Ouagadougou
On February 14, 2024, a substantial delegation from Mali arrived in Ouagadougou, warmly received by Burkina Faso’s Minister of State for Defense and Veterans Affairs, General Kassoum COULIBALY, and other high-ranking officials.
The visiting delegation, led by Colonel Abdoulaye MAIGA, Minister of State for Territorial Administration and Decentralization, and SEM Abdoulaye DIOP, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, alongside five other ministers, is in Burkina Faso for a crucial meeting of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) scheduled for February 15, 2024.
The significance of this visit lies in its pivotal role within the evolving geopolitical and geostrategic landscape, as emphasized by SEM Abdoulaye DIOP, the Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
He noted that the meeting in Ouagadougou marks a major turning point for the AES, a regional alliance that initially focused on military collaboration but has gradually expanded to include economic, commercial, and cultural dimensions.
Colonel Assimi GOITA’s call for robust governmental mobilization underscores the strategic partnership and brotherly ties between Mali and Burkina Faso.
The AES, initiated on September 16, 2023, through the adoption of its charter, has steadily grown into a multifaceted alliance, reflecting a commitment to regional integration and cooperation among Sahelian nations.
