Goalless draw at San Mamés: Athletic Bilbao holds FC Barcelona in La Liga’s 27th Matchday

In the 27th matchday of La Liga, the clash between Athletic Bilbao and FC Barcelona at San Mamés ended in a goalless draw. The first half concluded with a 0-0 score, despite an initial strong performance from Barcelona. However, they struggled to maintain control and create scoring opportunities, with Cancelo’s distant lob being a notable attempt.

Unfortunately for Barcelona, De Jong and Pedri had to leave the field due to injuries during this half.

The second half saw both teams making attempts to break the deadlock, but neither side could convert their opportunities into goals.

The match ended with a final score of 0-0. Barcelona, coming off a decisive victory against Getafe in the previous weekend, failed to secure another win, missing a chance to narrow the gap with the league leaders, Real Madrid.

They maintained their position in third place with 58 points.

Athletic Bilbao, who were fifth before the match, also remained in their spot in the standings. In the previous week, they suffered a 1-3 defeat to Real Betis.

Despite this result, Bilbao maintained their status as the second-best defense in La Liga, having conceded only 26 goals throughout the season.

With 50 points, they continue to hold onto the fifth position in the league table.
