Football/Leverkusen stuns Bayern in German Cup Thriller

The Allianz Arena hosted a dramatic clash in the German Cup Round of 16 as Bayern Munich faced Bayer Leverkusen. The match took a shocking turn early on when Manuel Neuer received a straight red card just after the 15th minute for a reckless challenge outside the penalty area. Despite being down to ten men, Bayern held firm for much of the game.

However, Leverkusen broke the deadlock in the 69th minute. Nathan Tella delivered a decisive header off a precise cross from Grimaldo, sending the defending champions into the quarterfinals and leaving Bayern Munich eliminated far earlier than expected.

The Bavarians’ premature exit highlights Leverkusen’s determination to retain the trophy they won last season.

Elsewhere in the competition, Werder Bremen secured their spot in the next round with a narrow 1-0 victory over Darmstadt.

This result not only boosts Leverkusen’s confidence but also sets the stage for an intense battle as the tournament progresses. Meanwhile, Bayern faces tough questions about their early departure.
