United States: Trump orders temporary suspension of foreign student visas

According to Politico, the Trump administration has ordered an immediate halt to the scheduling of visa interviews for foreign students at U.S. embassies and consulates. The directive, signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, is aimed at preparing for the implementation of new, stricter controls on applicants’ social media profiles for those seeking to study in the United States.

“Consular offices should no longer schedule student visa appointments until further notice,” the document states. This temporary measure is part of the broader tightening of immigration policies under the Trump administration.

According to State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, the measure reflects a commitment to ensuring national security. “The goal, as stated by the President and the Secretary of State, is to make sure that individuals coming here do not have criminal intentions,” she said, without explicitly confirming the suspension.
