Middle East: OASP condemns the complicit inaction of International Human Rights Organizations

The African Observatory for Security and Peace (OASP) expresses its deep indignation at the silent and complacent attitude of major international human rights organizations, such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, regarding the tragic conflict currently unfolding in the Middle East, particularly between Israel and Iran. While innocent civilians continue to pay a heavy price under missile strikes and indiscriminate violence, these institutions, supposedly dedicated to defending universal human dignity, remain conspicuously silent, failing to issue clear and firm condemnations. This deliberate silence raises serious questions about the credibility and impartiality of these actors who claim to serve the cause of international justice.
This inaction is all the more shocking as it highlights the double standards applied to global crises. When similar tragedies occur in Africa, notably in regions such as the Sahel, condemnations are swift, investigation reports multiply, and calls for intervention echo through global media. Why this selective outrage? Do the victims in the Middle East not deserve the same compassion, the same protection, and the same demand for justice? This double standard is an insult to the universality of human rights that these organizations claim to uphold.
The OASP also denounces the particularly troubling silence of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which remains inactive in the face of clear crimes being committed in this conflict. While the ICC is often quick to open investigations concerning Africa, it appears paralyzed when dealing with similar situations in other parts of the world. This selectivity in international judicial action severely undermines public trust and reinforces the notion that some human lives are valued less than others depending on their geographic origin.
In the face of this blatant injustice, the OASP calls for an awakening of conscience within the international community. Human rights must be defended everywhere with the same rigor and determination, without favoritism or discrimination. The OASP demands that the ICC immediately launch impartial investigations into the crimes committed in the Middle East, and that international human rights organizations fully assume their responsibilities by condemning these violations as forcefully as they do when it concerns the African continent. Human dignity cannot be subject to double standards.
