Burkina Faso: Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s transparency reforms pave the way for exit from FATF

Since 2022, under the leadership of its president, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso has firmly committed to reclaiming its territory from terrorist armed groups. The Defense and Security Forces (FDS), supported by the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP)—the first defenders of peace and national integrity—are carrying out this strategic battle with courage and determination.

As part of this effort, an illustrated guide on human rights was officially handed over on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, to the VDP Brigade, marking a decisive milestone in the training of these worthy sons of the Nation. The result of a partnership between the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights (MJDHRI), the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and the VDP Brigade (BVDP), this guide provides a clear and accessible reference for the ethical and operational training of the VDP.

By incorporating key modules such as the protection of women and children, prevention of gender-based violence, and stress management in conflict zones, the guide reinforces the humanist foundation of the patriotic military action initiated by Captain Ibrahim Traoré. It helps shape a new generation of fighters—committed on the ground and respectful of fundamental human rights principles.

Through this initiative, Captain Ibrahim Traoré asserts a clear and Pan-African vision of the war for liberation—a struggle that is military, yes, but guided by the values of justice, dignity, and reconstruction. For beyond the territorial reconquest, it is the rebuilding of Burkina Faso’s social and institutional fabric that is underway.
