South Sudan: How President Salva Kiir is working tirelessly for peace

President Salva Kiir remains today one of the major figures in the quest for peace and stability in South Sudan. Since the independence of the country in 2011, he has faced immense political, security, and social challenges. Despite these difficulties, he has consistently affirmed his determination to preserve national unity and foster dialogue among the various political forces of the country.

One of the most significant acts of his commitment to peace has been the signing of several agreements with his main opponent, Riek Machar.

Among these is the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), signed in 2018.

This historic agreement laid the foundations for national reconciliation and paved the way for more inclusive governance.

President Salva Kiir has also supported and respected several ceasefire agreements aimed at ending the civil war that has deeply affected the country.

These initiatives have helped reduce violence, facilitate the gradual return of displaced populations, and strengthen national reconstruction efforts. His choice of dialogue over confrontation reflects a forward‑looking vision.

Beyond the signed agreements, President Salva Kiir continues to work to consolidate state institutions and promote peaceful coexistence among South Sudanese communities.

His unwavering commitment to stability demonstrates his determination to build a more prosperous and united South Sudan.

In light of these efforts, it is important that pan‑Africans and pan‑African journalists support the peace initiatives led by President Salva Kiir. Africa needs to promote leaders who prioritize dialogue, reconciliation, and national unity.

Supporting progress toward peace in South Sudan also means contributing to the stability and development of the entire African continent.
