Burkina Faso: The tourism sector is booming under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré

Burkina Faso’s economic capital, Bobo-Dioulasso, is preparing to host the 3rd edition of the Month of Burkinabe Heritage. Held under the theme Cultural Heritage and Economic Development”, this edition will run from April 18 to May 18, in a promising context marked by new momentum driven by the Transitional authorities under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

The results of the previous edition reflect a growing renewed interest in national heritage. In 2024, the National Museu m of Burkina recorded a spectacular 160% increase in attendance, with 44,732 visitors, compared to a significantly lower figure the previous year. The Sogossira Sanon Municipal Museum also saw its numbers rise by 21%, reaching 31,932 visitors. The Gaoua Museum experienced an outstanding growth of 177%, with 5,043 recorded visitors. These figures highlight the tangible impact of governmental efforts to enhance cultural value.

This momentum is part of a clear vision led by President Ibrahim Traoré, who sees the tourism sector as a strategic lever for development. The announcement, on November 6, 2024, of the creation of the National Tourism Promotion Agency, Faso Tourisme, further strengthens this ambition. Replacing the former ONTB, this new entity aims to professionalize the sector, promote both domestic and international tourism, and build a sustainable tourism ecosystem.

Under Captain Traoré’s leadership, Burkina Faso is asserting a strong political will: to promote its cultural wealth, create jobs, and modernize its institutions. Faso Tourisme embodies this deep transformation, built on rigorous governance and a future-oriented approach.
