Togo’s Foreign Minister visits DRC as part of AU-brokered mediation efforts

In continuation of diplomatic consultations led by Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé, Foreign Minister Robert Dussey conducted a working visit to Kinshasa, meeting with Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi. The Togolese diplomat delivered a message from President Gnassingbé, who was appointed by the African Union (AU) as mediator in the security crisis gripping eastern DRC.

Minister Dussey’s trip follows last week’s visit to Lomé by Angolan Foreign Minister António Tété, underscoring Togo’s proactive diplomatic strategy: prioritizing dialogue, strengthening regional cooperation, and advancing African-led solutions to African challenges.

Dussey reiterated Togo’s commitment to an impartial and constructive role in de-escalating tensions in eastern DRC.

With security tensions resurging in the Great Lakes region, the AU’s selection of Togo as mediator highlights the country’s growing diplomatic credibility and its reputation for quiet but effective African leadership.

Through this mediation, Lomé reaffirms its dedication to fostering sustainable peace on the continent, anchored in dialogue and regional cooperation.
