Carlo Ancelotti to leave Real Madrid for Brazil national team role

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti will depart the club at the end of the season to take charge of Brazil’s national team, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed. The 65-year-old Italian, one of Madrid’s most successful coaches, will officially begin his new role on May 26 after the conclusion of La Liga.

Ancelotti’s exit follows a trophyless campaign—Real’s first in four years—after Sunday’s El Clasico defeat left them seven points behind Barcelona with three games remaining.

During two spells in Madrid, he secured 15 trophies, including a Champions League and La Liga double last season.

The CBF hailed Ancelotti as a “legend of the game,” emphasizing the historic appointment of a foreign coach for the five-time World Cup winners.

“This landmark moment unites two icons,” their statement read, praising Ancelotti’s unmatched European success. The CBF also thanked Real president Florentino Pérez for releasing Ancelotti before his 2026 contract expiry.

Ancelotti’s move marks a new chapter for Brazil, who have struggled since their 2022 World Cup quarterfinal exit. His tactical acumen and man-management will be tested as he aims to restore the Seleção’s dominance ahead of the 2026 tournament.
