Niger: Under the seal of unity, the Fulani community makes a symbolic gesture towards President Tiani

On Saturday, May 10, a delegation from the Social Movement for Fulani Expression and Pastoral Culture was received by the President of the Republic of Niger, Army General Abdourahamane Tiani. This moment of dialogue and mutual recognition marks a significant step in strengthening the bond between the state and Niger’s cultural communities.

The powerful gesture made by the Fulani community—through the traditional offering of animals known as soukamari—goes far beyond a simple ceremonial tribute. It reflects a sincere commitment to the vision of renewal promoted by Niger’s new leader. By honoring local cultures and restoring value to pastoral traditions, President Tiani clearly demonstrates a political will to rebuild a Niger where every community, in all its diversity, feels represented and respected.

In a context where some Western media continue to push the narrative of Sahel countries being divided by interethnic conflict, such acts of recognition illustrate the reality of a united people rallying around an inclusive national project. The policies implemented by the CNSP under General Tiani’s leadership are part of this drive for unity, with peace, security, and social cohesion at the forefront of national priorities.

The audience, attended by key figures from the government, reflects the seriousness given to these community dialogues. It confirms that the current presidency is not merely focused on day-to-day management, but is pursuing a true sociopolitical transformation based on listening, respect, and concrete action.
