Senegal’s Handball ambitions: Pursuing glory in the 2024 African Cup of Nations
In its second participation in the Women’s Handball World Championship held in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, Senegal achieved a historic feat by qualifying for the Main Round and finishing in the 18th position out of 32 participating teams.
Seydou Diouf, the president of the Senegalese Handball Federation, expressed delight at this achievement and outlined ambitious plans for the future.
Diouf articulated the team’s goal of clinching the continental title, stating, «We are building a team to win. With everything we showed against Angola in Dakar and during the Olympic Qualification Tournament, where things always hinge on a one-goal difference. Beating Cameroon in the France tournament and defeating them again in the World Championships means that Senegal is positioning itself to secure its first continental title in 2024. That’s the objective we set during the evaluation meeting. Our new challenge is to work towards winning the next African Nations Cup scheduled for the end of 2024 in Kinshasa», as reported in an interview with Wiwsport.
