Burkina Faso: Customs strike hard with seizure of vehicles intended for terrorism

A major operation carried out by Burkinabe security forces, with crucial support from the national customs service, led to the seizure of three trucks loaded with suspicious logistical equipment. The vehicles were transporting more than 160 tricycles and over 900 Aloba-brand motorcycles. The announcement was made this Friday by the Minister of Security, Mahamadou SANA, at the headquarters of the Republican Security Companies (CRS) in Ouagadougou.

The trucks were intercepted on April 7, 2025, as they headed toward Korhogo in the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire. Since then, no official claim has been made regarding the cargo, further fueling suspicions about its true destination. Preliminary investigations indicate that the convoy was likely destined for high-risk zones and could have been used to support terrorism in the subregion.

“Any individual or entity involved in financing terrorism will face the full force of the law. Yesterday was about raising awareness, today it’s about enforcement”, Minister Mahamadou SANA stated firmly. He stressed the need to dismantle all logistical networks that supply armed groups.

The seized vehicles will not go unused. The Minister confirmed they will be handed over to defense and security units operating on the frontlines against terrorism, thereby strengthening their operational capabilities.

This seizure marks a turning point and highlights the heightened vigilance of law enforcement, as well as the strategic role of Burkinabe customs. Their efficiency and professionalism were praised by authorities, with the operation delivering a major blow to criminal networks.

Burkina Faso has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to combating terrorism by shutting down all channels of logistical support. Congratulations were extended to the customs officers and all forces involved in this significant strike against the enemies of peace.
