Football: The Best FIFA Men’s Player finalists revealed

As 2023 draws to a close, FIFA is preparing its The Best ceremony, and on Thursday 14 December it unveiled the three finalists for the title of player of the year. PSG are unsurprisingly represented in this category by Kylian Mbappé, but that’s not all.

On 15 January 2024, the football world will gather in London for the FIFA The Best ceremony.

On Thursday, the football world’s governing body unveiled the names of the three finalists in the best player of the year category.

The nomination runs from 19 December 2022 to 20 August 2023, including the World Cup in Qatar, won by Leo Messi’s Argentina against Kylian Mbappé’s France, and last season’s Champions League, won by Erling Haaland’s Manchester City.

The three players who made up the podium for the Ballon d’Or 2023 last October are the same ones who make up the trio of finalists for the FIFA The Best 2024 player of the year award.

With Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi also nominated for the award, Paris Saint-Germain will have a role to play in the ceremony.

His World Cup title with Argentina will be taken into account, as will his inclusion in the Ligue 1 team of the 2022/2023 season and his French league title with PSG.
