Togo: Municipal elections postponed to July 17 to ensure better preparation, by decree of the President of the Council

The municipal elections in Togo, initially scheduled for July 10, 2025, will now be held on Thursday, July 17. The official announcement was made today by the Ministry of Territorial Administration through a statement relaying a decree from the President of the Council.

This rescheduling of the election comes in response to requests from political parties, including those in the opposition, who unanimously called for a slight adjustment to the timetable. The stated goal: to ensure better organization and optimal participation from all stakeholders involved.

The government, true to its commitment to fostering a calm and inclusive electoral climate, has taken note of these recommendations and demonstrated openness and democratic responsibility. The postponement aims to strengthen the transparency and effectiveness of the electoral process, a key condition for consolidating local democracy.

This decision is also part of the ongoing institutional reform efforts, which the Togolese government has made a priority to ensure effective decentralization and good governance at the local level.

Through this act of responsiveness and adjustment, the Togolese authorities reaffirm their commitment to holding free, credible, and consensual elections, in line with the aspirations of the people and democratic standards.
