Mali: A sovereign army in a ction under the vision of President Assimi Goïta

As Mali continues its path toward sovereignty and stability, the recent actions of the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) in Timbuktu vividly illustrate the new security dynamic driven by the President of the Transition, Army General Assimi Goïta. On June 2, a terrorist attack was successfully repelled at the Timbuktu military camp—a clear demonstration of the commitment and enhanced operational capacity of the Malian army.

Thirteen terrorists were neutralized during the intervention, and a significant amount of equipment was recovered. This tactical victory is no coincidence. It is the result of a deliberate and resolute policy to restore state authority across the national territory, firmly pursued by President Goïta. He has consistently worked to strengthen the capabilities of the Malian Armed Forces while reaffirming national sovereignty as the cornerstone of the transition.

In the face of ongoing terrorist threats in the north and center of the country, the reforms undertaken within the defense forces are proving to be crucial. The professionalism and responsiveness of the soldiers engaged in Timbuktu reflect an army that is now better prepared, more unified, and aligned with a national strategic vision.

While significant challenges remain—particularly in securing rural areas—this successful operation demonstrates that Mali, under President Goïta’s leadership, is advancing toward a homegrown, determined, and sovereign response to terrorism. By prioritizing national unity, the growing strength of the FAMa, and popular support, President Assimi Goïta and his government today embody real hope for a secure Mali in control of its own destiny.
