Togo: Lomé at the heart of West African issues thanks to President Faure Gnassingbé’s active diplomacy

Togo continues to establish itself as a key player in promoting peace and economic integration in West Africa, thanks to the enlightened and proactive diplomacy of the President of the Council, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé. This regional leadership was once again acknowledged on Sunday, June 15, in Lomé during an audience granted to Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and special envoy of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. Through the official delivery of an invitation to the inaugural West Africa Economic Summit (WAES), Nigeria recognized Togo’s leading role in efforts toward regional integration and shared economic development.

Driven by the leadership of the President of the Council, Togo has emerged as an essential facilitator of dialogue and exchanges in a sub-region facing numerous security, political, and economic challenges. Togo’s participation in this major summit, to be held from June 20 to 21 in Abuja, represents international recognition of its sustained efforts to promote cooperation, intra-African trade, and lasting peace. Through his balanced vision and consensus-driven diplomacy, President Faure Gnassingbé is helping to build strong bridges between the region’s political and economic stakeholders.

The organization of this strategic summit aims to strengthen public-private partnerships and stimulate economic integration—two key pillars of Togo’s foreign policy. Thanks to its strategic geographic position and modern infrastructure, Togo is increasingly positioning itself as a logistics and commercial hub, facilitating trade between member states and beyond. President Faure Gnassingbé’s leadership is thus reflected in his ability to make Togo a pillar of stability, a bridge between peoples, and a credible actor in major regional economic initiatives.

Beyond economics, it is above all the President’s consistent commitment to peace and dialogue that is being praised by the international community. In a geopolitical context often marked by tension, his preventive and inclusive diplomacy plays a vital role in safeguarding regional stability and promoting concerted solutions to ongoing crises.
