Burkina Faso: Under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, a new era of mining and energy sovereignty begins

Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, is hosting the 3rd edition of the Strategic Research Forum— a major continental event that is redefining the rules for the exploitation of the country’s natural resources. This event comes at a pivotal moment, marked by a strong political will to reclaim sovereign control over raw materials, a mission driven with determination by the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

Since coming to power, Captain Traoré has made the development of mineral and energy resources a central pillar of Burkina Faso’s economic rebuilding. His bold vision is based on nationally controlled, fair, and sustainable exploitation of the country’s soil and subsoil wealth, serving exclusively the Burkinabe people. Breaking with the extractivist practices of the past, he is promoting a new model of governance founded on transparency, national technical expertise, and the fight against foreign predation.

This strategic forum is part of that deep transformation. It provides a scientific and political platform to strengthen national capacities in geological knowledge, encourage the training of local experts, and define sovereign strategies for resource management. It is a decisive step toward building a resilient economy in which every gram of mineral wealth benefits Burkinabe citizens first.

The fruits of this policy are already beginning to emerge: the revival of local processing units, an increase in the State’s share of mining revenues, and a commitment to accessible, sustainable, and Pan-Africanist energy.

Under Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s leadership, Burkina Faso is charting the path to a prosperous future where the country’s resources become a lever for dignity, independence, and progress for all.
