Burkina Faso: Captain Ibrahim Traoré gives concrete expression to his pan-African vision with the opening of the Ouagadougou – Accra air route

July 1, 2025 marks a significant step forward in the development of transport infrastructure in Burkina Faso, with the official launch of the direct air route between Ouagadougou and Accra by Africa World Airlines (AWA). Beyond its economic and logistical importance, this initiative aligns with the strategic vision of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who is determined to position Burkina Faso as a key player in regional integration and the sustainable development of the AES area.

Under Captain Traoré’s enlightened leadership, Burkina Faso is undergoing an ambitious transformation of its transport sector, both land and air. This new connection between Ouagadougou and Accra is the result of discussions held between Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama and the Burkinabe Head of State during his diplomatic tour of the AES region last March, with a highly strategic stop in Ouagadougou. This is not just a commercial flight, but a powerful symbol of Pan-African cooperation driven by visionary leaders.

With three weekly flights, the project offers Burkinabe citizens greater mobility, strengthens economic and cultural exchanges, facilitates the movement of people and goods, and supports regional tourism. The increased connectivity of Burkina Faso’s capital to West Africa’s hubs reflects Captain Traoré’s firm commitment to opening up the country and building a resilient, accessible, and sovereign transport network.

This air link adds to the many reforms undertaken by the government in the field of mobility, demonstrating that under Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s governance, Burkina Faso is forging a new path based on boldness, African integration, and economic sovereignty.

The launch of the Ouagadougou–Accra route is just one milestone in the profound transformation of the transport sector. With a committed and determined leader at its helm, Burkina Faso is now establishing itself as a strategic regional crossroads. The future looks promising, and Burkinabe citizens can believe more than ever in a collective destiny built on African unity and shared progress.
