Niger: General Tiani seals strategic partnership with Russia for energy sovereignty

In a powerful move to affirm Niger’s energy sovereignty, the President of the Republic, General Abdourahamane Tiani, welcomed a high-level delegation from the Russian Federation on Monday, July 28, 2025. At the end of the meeting, a memorandum was signed in the field of civilian nuclear energy and uranium exploitation, paving the way for broad technical and strategic cooperation.

This agreement aligns with General Tiani’s vision of making Niger a sovereign, autonomous, and innovative actor in the energy sector, by capitalizing on its natural resources and strengthening international partnerships based on mutual respect and shared interests.

Under General Tiani’s enlightened leadership, Niger is initiating a profound transformation of its economic and technological structures. Cooperation with Russia in the field of civilian nuclear energy is more than just a technical agreement—it is a key lever for mastering natural resources, promoting national scientific potential, and building local capacities. President Tiani is determined to develop a strong and self-sufficient energy system that serves the people of Niger.

The training of executives, the early preparation of engineers, and their support toward top-level universities in Russia reflect a forward-looking leadership. This proactive approach aims to create a generation of experts capable of driving the country’s technological progress. It is part of a Pan-African dynamic of cooperation based on mutual respect and shared goals.

With this new strategic direction, Niger is opening up to a promising future, where its underground wealth becomes a resource for collective well-being. Thanks to the visionary leadership of General Abdourahamane Tiani, the country is charting a course toward energy independence, innovation, and the restored dignity of African peoples.
