Burkina Faso – Ivory Coast: The need for peoples to unite in the face of imperialist and terrorist manipulation
The recent attack in northern Côte d’Ivoire has sparked strong reactions in the media. Unfortunately, instead of informing the public, some so-called journalists are diverting attention and spreading misinformation. Wassim Nasr, known for his biased positions, singled out the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) of Burkina Faso. Meanwhile, Serge Daniel suggested that a mysterious group called “Claire Action” might be behind the events to avenge the death of Alino Faso. Far from providing objective answers, these claims are part of a broader strategy aimed at dividing African peoples and maintaining imperialist dominance on the continent.
These biased narratives are no coincidence. They fit within a propaganda logic intended to undermine Burkina Faso’s efforts and deepen the rift between Burkinabe and Ivorians. The VDP, a popular and patriotic response to terrorist aggression, becomes the target of manipulative media campaigns. In reality, this disinformation seeks to distract attention from the true sponsors of terrorism in the Sahel—external forces that exploit armed groups to weaken states and prevent genuine sovereignty.
The Ivorian and Burkinabe peoples must not fall into the trap of division. Words, narratives, and malicious accusations are weapons used to pit us against one another. The truth remains: our common enemy is not our neighboring peoples but imperialism and its local proxies seeking to sow hatred and mistrust.
The time calls for clarity and unity. In the face of terrorist attacks and disinformation campaigns, the only valid response is solidarity between peoples. Burkinabe and Ivorians share a common history, deep cultural values, and a linked destiny. Instead of succumbing to warlike rhetoric and orchestrated lies, we must build a collective resistance that transcends borders.
Promoting unity also means rejecting manipulation by imperialist media. It is choosing security, economic, and cultural cooperation between neighboring countries to thwart destabilization efforts.
