Togo: Focus on the SWEDD+ project promoting school enrollment

Under the high patronage of His Excellency Faure Gnassingbé, President of the Council, the Togolese government officially launched the national school kit distribution campaign on Tuesday in Djemegni, Haho prefecture. This initiative is part of the SWEDD+ project (Sahel Women’s Empowerment and Demographic Dividend Plus), supported by the World Bank and various technical and financial partners.

This unprecedented operation reflects the Togolese authorities’ determination to remove barriers to schooling, particularly for young girls, and to send a strong signal in favor of equal opportunity. It is also in line with the national education policy, which aims to strengthen access to inclusive and quality education for all.

In total, more than 100,000 female students, from primary to high school, will receive complete school kits for the 2025–2026 academic year. These material supports are intended to ease the burden on families, often facing economic hardship, and to encourage girls to continue their education in a fairer learning environment.

For the Togolese government, this investment is strategic, as it is not only about improving learning conditions but also about consolidating progress in women’s empowerment and advancing the demographic dividend.
