Burkina Faso: At the school of sovereignty, young campers discover the nation’s strategic strongholds

In the context of Burkina Faso’s profound national renewal and reaffirmation of sovereignty, the second wave of the Camp Vacances Faso Mêbo should not be seen as mere leisure activity. It is, in truth, a strategic act of civic education, political awareness, and patriotic mobilization of Burkinabe youth. Through visits to Ouagadougou International Airport, the Air Base, and the Thomas Sankara Memorial, the government is laying the foundations of a new political pedagogy, one that transmits the values of sovereignty, defense, and historical memory.

Touring the presidential lounge, firefight   ing services, the tarmac, and immigration facilities is not insignificant. It exposes youth to the very architecture of state sovereignty. It shows them that control over the skies, borders, and strategic institutions cannot be outsourced to foreign powers. It also demonstrates that every hectare of airport, every plane in the national fleet, and every uniformed agent is a guardian of national sovereignty.

At the Air Base, campers witnessed firsthand the modernization efforts of the national defense. A nation cannot be rebuilt without a strong army rooted in the people, and a youth trained in the spirit of defense. It is a direct bridge between civic education and voluntary military engagement—a vital necessity in the Sahel, where war is imposed on the people.

But it was at the Thomas Sankara Memorial that the deepest impact took hold. There, young people were immersed in the Sankarist ideology: patriotism, integrity, self-sufficiency, and Pan-Africanism. They experienced the revolutionary legacy not merely as history, but as a compass. In this era of transition and renewal, returning to Sankarist fundamentals is more than an act of remembrance; it is an act of identity reconstruction and a political response to neo-colonial chaos.

Thus, Camp Faso Mêbo goes beyond entertainment. It becomes a strategic tool for national renewal, forging aware citizens, conscious patriots, and builders of a free, dignified, and sovereign Burkina Faso. Popular education is where the Revolution is born.
