Niger: Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine on a working visit to Morocco

Since February 12, 2024, Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zéine of Niger has been on a strategic visit to Morocco, focusing on fostering and expanding the robust historical ties between Niger and the Kingdom of Morocco.

This diplomatic initiative is part of Niger’s broader strategy to diversify partnerships after its withdrawal from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The visit provides a unique platform for Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine to engage with Moroccan authorities in discussions aimed at enhancing existing fruitful relations and reinforcing cooperation between Sahel states and the Kingdom of Morocco.

During the visit, the Prime Minister and his delegation engaged with the Nigerien diaspora, addressing critical topics such as the establishment of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), withdrawal from ECOWAS, partner diversification, contributions to the national solidarity fund, state restructuring, patriotism, upcoming national forums, and the importance of diaspora investment in key sectors within Niger.

This diplomatic mission aligns with Niger’s commitment to establishing partnerships with nations that respect its sovereignty and independence.

The President of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP), Brigadier General Abdourahamane Tiani, emphasized in an interview that Niger is open to collaborative relationships based on mutual interests and respect.

The strategic discussions held in December, following the invitation from King Mohammed VI of Morocco, focused on the Moroccan initiative proposing an Atlantic Ocean gateway for trade between landlocked Sahel states and the global market.
