Burkina-Faso: Ratification of the Liptako-Gourma Charter, the government ready for synergy of action against terrorism in the Sahel

After Mali, Burkina Faso is set to ratify the Liptako-Gourma Charter establishing the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). In a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, February 28, the Burkinabe government gave the green light to endorse this charter, granting legal and operational authority to Burkina Faso in the fight against terrorism in Burkinabe, Malian, and Nigerien territories.

The government’s bill will be forwarded to the transitional legislative assembly for approval, enabling the country to collaborate in joint efforts with Malian and Nigerien authorities against insecurity in the Sahel.

This move aligns with the objectives of the alliance led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré, Colonel Assimi Goïta, and General Abdourahamane Tiani, which Burkina Faso supports through this legislation.

By authorizing the ratification of the Charter, Burkina Faso joins Mali in accelerating the implementation of the mission assigned to the AES, particularly the pooling of efforts to reclaim the entire Sahelian territory.

Through this act, Burkina Faso reaffirms its commitment to this alliance based on solidarity, fraternity, mutual respect, and, above all, its dedication to the complete sovereignty of Sahel countries, free from foreign interference.
