Burkina Faso: Announcement of the first OPUIS Awards to celebrate leaders committed to national sovereignty

The inaugural edition of the OPUIS Awards, an observatory aimed at celebrating and honoring emerging leaders and community advocates committed to national sovereignty, is set to take place on April 27, 2024, in Ouagadougou, as announced by the organizing committee on March 5, 2024.

Initiated by Sigma Corporation and the Valium Group, this event seeks to raise awareness of republican values, promote the defense of national interest, encourage coexistence, and inform and educate the population about essential civic values.

Maxime Ouédraogo, a member of the organizing committee, emphasized that the OPUIS Awards target individuals such as public figures, politicians, civil society actors, and young leaders, as well as legal entities including NGOs, civil society organizations, and non-political associations.

To be eligible, one must be of Burkinabe nationality, at least 25 years old, have peer or industry recognition, be regarded as a reference in their field, and have made a significant contribution to the country’s development.

Donis Ayivi, Executive Vice President of Sigma Corporation, highlighted that the OPUIS Awards ceremony is scheduled for April 27, 2024, in Ouagadougou.

Among the awards to be presented are the OPUIS Joseph Ki-Zerbo Award for education and culture, the Marie Jacqueline Ki-Zerbo Award for progress and women’s promotion, the Guimbi Ouattara Award for artistic and cultural excellence in promoting Faso, the Norbert Zongo Award for integrity, peace, social justice, and freedom of the press, as well as the OPUIS Yacouba Sawadogo Award for environmental protection.
