Togo: President Faure Gnassingbé makes a convincing plea for greater African cooperation against terrorism

Togolese President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé has once again demonstrated his strong commitment to security and stability in Africa by calling for a significant strengthening of cooperation among African countries to counter the growing terrorist threat. His recent address at a high-level meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, highlighted his unwavering dedication to this vital cause.

The event, attended by several prominent African leaders, focused its discussions on the crucial theme of enhancing cooperation and regional institutions to combat the rise of terrorism in Africa.

In his articulate speech, the Togolese President emphasized the urgent need for concerted action, stressing the necessity of increased financial support for counterterrorism efforts and closer military cooperation among states, each facing specific realities and challenges.

«The substance of our states is threatened by terrorism. Therefore, defeating terrorism is our only option», President Faure Gnassingbé passionately declared.

He underscored that victory against this scourge can only be achieved through effective inter-state cooperation, capable of addressing constantly evolving threats and forms of asymmetric conflict.

President Gnassingbé also highlighted the importance of initiatives aimed at mobilizing populations in support of the rule of law and improving their living conditions.

However, he insisted that a reformed framework for military cooperation was essential to achieving this goal.

This new approach should align with global realities and consider the international context.
