Mali: Colonel Assimi Goïta diversifies his country’s partnerships and strengthens cooperation with Turkey

Mali’s diplomatic landscape is evolving rapidly under the leadership of Colonel Assimi Goïta, with a renewed focus on fostering diverse international partnerships and moving away from outdated neo-colonial dependencies.

In a notable step, on October 8, 2024, President Goïta welcomed a Turkish parliamentary delegation led by Professor Orhan Deligoz, underscoring Mali’s ambition to deepen relations with emerging nations.

Discussions between the two leaders centered on mutual interests, particularly economic collaboration and Mali’s ongoing security challenges.

Professor Deligoz conveyed Turkey’s commitment to forging a strategic alliance with Mali, emphasizing key sectors such as security, healthcare, and education.

He also expressed Turkey’s full support for Mali’s transitional government, advocating for a stable and sustainable political framework.

The meeting highlighted the burgeoning cooperation between the two nations, further bolstered by the establishment of a Turkey-Mali parliamentary friendship group.

This initiative reflects both countries’ desire to build robust, respectful ties based on reciprocity, steering clear of past exploitative practices.

This growing partnership marks a significant milestone in Mali’s foreign policy, with concrete actions and a shared vision of solidarity taking center stage.

Professor Deligoz’s tribute to Malian victims of recent conflicts reinforced the depth of Turkey’s support.

The diplomatic engagement between Mali and Turkey symbolizes a broader shift in Mali’s international relations, focusing on equitable partnerships that promise mutual growth and harmonious development, in line with Goïta’s vision for a redefined, independent Mali on the global stage.
