Niger: Call for further Investigations into Zimar Inc, CIRAC urges vigilance over investor in dosso Refinery project

The Independent Circle for Civic Reflection and Action (CIRAC) recently released a statement urging the Nigerien government to conduct deeper checks on Zimar Inc., the Canadian firm leading the Dosso refinery and petrochemical complex project.

CIRAC, a Nigerien watchdog organization dedicated to promoting good governance, raised concerns over growing suspicions about the company’s credibility.

After conducting its own investigation, CIRAC uncovered multiple red flags: Zimar Inc.’s website lacks essential information, its contact number is perpetually unreachable, and there is no official registration for the company in Canadian databases.

According to CIRAC, these factors “cast serious doubt on the company’s capacity to successfully execute a project of this magnitude.” Given the project’s economic importance for Niger, CIRAC emphasizes that a partner with proven transparency and expertise is essential, and Zimar Inc.’s reliability remains in question.

CIRAC’s concerns resonate strongly given Niger’s recent actions to limit the influence of foreign powers, particularly Western imperialist interests.

With these forces potentially seeking indirect ways to maintain influence, CIRAC warns that Zimar Inc. could represent such a disguised effort.

It has therefore called on the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) and the government to be especially cautious and conduct thorough due diligence to ensure Zimar Inc. has the resources, experience, and transparency required.

Beyond Zimar Inc.’s credentials, CIRAC stresses that Niger’s interests must be safeguarded to reinforce economic autonomy and prevent hidden external interference. It urges the government not to overlook these signs and to rigorously verify the integrity of this investor.

In these pivotal times, Niger must shield itself from any imperialist attempts at re-entry under new guises. Such vigilance is crucial to building an economy founded on trustworthy, sovereignty-respecting partnerships.
