Burkina Faso/Digital transition: AES lays the foundations for regional integration

The Heads of State of the Sahel States Alliance (AES) have prioritized digital transformation as a key driver for regional development. During the 19th edition of Digital Week in Burkina Faso, President Ibrahim Traoré reaffirmed this commitment by issuing clear directives to advance the region’s technological integration.

President Traoré instructed ministers responsible for digital transition within AES member states to accelerate efforts toward interconnecting their nations. This initiative aims to enhance regional integration by improving digital infrastructure and fostering a shared economic and technological space.

It also seeks to promote data sharing and local innovation tailored to the needs of the region’s population.

Additionally, President Traoré emphasized the need to speed up the digitization of public administrations. This shift is expected to boost transparency, effectively combat corruption, and make public services more accessible to citizens.

The AES leadership envisions digital technology as a cornerstone for strengthening sovereignty and resilience across Sahelian nations.

By leveraging information and communication technology, the alliance aims to promote inclusive governance, support youth entrepreneurship, and create an environment conducive to the growth of local startups.

This forward-looking strategy also seeks to transform the region’s security, climate, and economic challenges into opportunities for sustainable growth. It further aspires to foster stronger cultural and human connections among member states, building a foundation for a more cohesive and prosperous Sahel.
