Africa: Political mediation/ Niger seeks Faure Gnassingbé’s expertise
Togo is known for its successful interventions in the search for peace and stability in the sub-region. This is thanks to the determination of President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé. The Togolese Head of State has chosen to work to maintain peace and security at the national level, while at the same time taking action at regional and inter-regional level in Africa.
Under the good governance of its President, His Excellency Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, Togo has launched a remarkable diplomatic initiative.
The preventive diplomacy advocated by Togo focuses on the peaceful and political management of conflicts and political antagonisms.
President Faure Gnassingbé’s expertise has once again been called upon in the crisis in Niger.
An official delegation from Niger met President Faure Gnassingbé in Lomé on 6 November 2023.
During the meeting, the Niger authorities asked the President of Togo to facilitate their efforts to engage in dialogue with the international community.
Togo has been designated as the guarantor of the withdrawal of French forces from Niger, alongside the United States of America.
Togo remains committed to peace and collective stability in a regional environment confronted with destabilising actions by armed terrorist groups and under security threat.
The ideals promoted and defended by Togo and which it is working to export to the Sahel are the spirit of listening and dialogue, solidarity, reconciliation and mediation, identified as social and political conditions for promoting positive peace.
