Burkina Faso: Minister of State Bassolma Bazié meets the Burkinabe Diaspora in Lomé

On March 23, 2024, Minister of State Bassolma Bazié, acting as the President of the Council of Ministers of the Inter-African Social Security Conference (CIPRES), engaged with Burkinabe residents residing in Lomé, Togo. This meeting served as a platform for the Minister of State to provide a comprehensive update on the current state of affairs in Burkina Faso.

In his introductory remarks, the Minister of State outlined the ongoing efforts towards state reconstruction, which include constitutional amendments such as the dissolution of the High Court of Justice and political reforms aimed at addressing governance challenges.

He also highlighted notable advancements in security, including the acquisition of new military equipment, the establishment of operational units, and the bolstering of defense and security forces.

Moreover, the Minister underscored the significance of economic reforms, citing the establishment of a gold refinery, revisions to the mining code to safeguard national interests, and the initiation of agricultural programs geared towards achieving food self-sufficiency.

Additionally, he touched upon healthcare initiatives, including the implementation of universal health insurance and initiatives to reduce the costs of medical equipment.

During the engagement, members of the Burkinabe diaspora raised pertinent concerns, particularly regarding housing and land accessibility in Lomé, security dynamics in northern Burkina Faso, and the necessity for reforms in the mining sector to better align with national interests.

In response, the Minister addressed these concerns and commended the patriotic dedication displayed by the diaspora.

Furthermore, he was briefed on an upcoming mobilization day designed to encourage patriotic contributions from Burkinabe individuals residing in Togo.

Prior to the diaspora meeting, Minister Bazié held discussions with Burkina’s Consul General in Lomé, Bila Clément Ouédraogo, further reinforcing diplomatic ties and coordination efforts.
