Burkina Faso / Council of Ministers: Creation of the National Tourism Promotion Agency to boost the sector

On Wednesday, Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, led the weekly Council of Ministers meeting, where key decisions were made to boost national governance and development.

Among the highlights, the Ministry of Economy and Finance introduced reforms aimed at revitalizing the tourism sector, leading to the adoption of three pivotal decrees, including the establishment of the new National Tourism Promotion Agency, “Faso Tourisme.”

Replacing the former National Tourism Office (ONTB), Faso Tourisme brings several strategic innovations to elevate and modernize Burkina Faso’s tourism promotion efforts.

One of the key changes includes restructuring the agency’s board to feature more representation from professional tourism organizations, creating a collaborative and inclusive platform for diverse industry stakeholders.

Faso Tourisme’s expanded role will focus on fostering domestic tourism, tapping into this sector’s potential to stimulate the national economy.

Additionally, a newly formed Tourism Promotion Council will serve as an advisory body, offering strategic insights to enhance Burkina Faso’s image as a desirable destination for both national and international visitors.

This overhaul underscores the government’s vision to position tourism as a pillar of economic growth and job creation.

With a fresh, participatory approach, Faso Tourisme aims to spotlight Burkina Faso’s rich cultural and natural heritage, enhancing its appeal to tourists at home and abroad.

This ambitious initiative seeks to transform tourism into a competitive, sustainable industry, boosting Burkina Faso’s presence on the global stage.
