Burkina Faso launches strategic dam rehabilitation project under transition Government

Under the leadership of Transition President Captain Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso has embarked on a major national reconstruction effort, with the recent launch of dredging works at the Itengué Dam in Kouritenga Province (Centre-East Region) serving as a prime example.

Spanning 182.6 hectares with a water storage capacity of nearly 3 million cubic meters, the dam represents a critical asset for local development.

Its rehabilitation directly addresses food insecurity and drinking water access key priorities of the Burkinabe government.

The project reflects President Traoré’s vision of people-centered governance, community resilience, and sustainable sovereignty, particularly in achieving food self-sufficiency to reduce reliance on imports.

Once operational, the Itengué Dam will boost rice production and improve clean water access for surrounding communities.

This initiative is part of a broader rural revitalization program to restore vital infrastructure, aligning with Traoré’s pledge to reclaim Burkina Faso’s self-sufficiency and national dignity.

More than a hydraulic project, the dam stands as a symbol of the country’s ongoing transformation.
