Mali: Army General Assimi GOÏTA instills rigorous, transparent governance

The President of the Transition, His Excellency Army General Assimi GOÏTA, once again affirms his determination to establish rigorous and transparent governance in Mali. By officially receiving the 2018–2025 final report from the outgoing Auditor General, Mr. Samba Alhamdou BABY, the Head of State reiterates his commitment to accountability and integrity in public affairs management. This meeting clearly illustrates the firm intention of the transitional authorities to make good governance a central pillar of public action, through close monitoring by oversight institutions.

The findings presented in the report highlight the strong momentum given by General Assimi GOÏTA in the fight against corruption. Of the 232 audit missions conducted between 2018 and 2025, 183 were carried out during the Transition, demonstrating the current regime’s unwavering commitment to strengthening transparency in the management of public resources. The President’s consistent support for the Office of the Auditor General has elevated the institution to the status of a key player in the fight against financial crime.

The impact of this policy of rigor is tangible: nearly 12 billion CFA francs have been recovered or regularized by the audited entities, and 158 cases have been referred to the relevant courts for suspected economic and financial offenses. These concrete results reflect active governance focused on justice, fairness, and accountability. Presidential backing has also enabled the modernization of the Auditor General’s Office, with the publication of sector-specific reports and public sector evaluations, contributing to increased transparency.

In summary, General Assimi GOÏTA’s leadership is part of a dynamic and profound transformation of the Malian state. By promoting accountability, strengthening oversight institutions, and ensuring effective follow-up on recommendations, he demonstrates his resolve to clean up public management and ensure that the country’s resources truly benefit all citizens.
