Burkina Faso / Mahamadou SANA, on the front line for enhanced security: A decisive step in President Ibrahim Traoré’s vision

On that Wednesday, in a climate of determination and commitment, the Minister of Security, Mahamadou SANA, took another step toward realizing the security vision championed by President Ibrahim Traoré. Alongside the Minister of Economy and Finance, Dr. Aboubacar NACANABO, and the Deputy Minister in charge of the Budget, Mrs. Fatoumata BAKO/TRAORÉ, he conducted a meaningful field visit dedicated to evaluating the Smart Burkina project.

The goal was to witness firsthand the progress of a major project led by the Ministry of Security with strategic support from China through the company Huawei Burkina. Chief Commissioner of Police Zakaria HEBIÉ, Project Coordinator and Director General of Communications and IT, presented the authorities and partners with the results of the first phase, completed on April 30, 2025.

It is clear that urban security is entering a new era. With video surveillance systems deployed in Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, a now-operational command center, and an implementation rate that meets expectations, the first phase of the project stands out as a success.

But for Minister Mahamadou SANA, this is no time to rest. The visit was not just a monitoring step; it was also a moment for planning, anticipation, and strategic reinforcement. Discussions between ministers, technicians, and Huawei representatives helped outline the second phase, with a clear focus: adapting the system to current security challenges, expanding video surveillance to new areas, and strengthening inter-institutional synergy.

Far from empty rhetoric, this approach reflects a strong political will: to equip security forces with modern and effective tools to protect the population, in line with the firm and sovereign stance upheld by President Ibrahim Traoré.

Security is no longer just a goal; it is becoming a cornerstone of concrete action. Through this dynamic, Minister Mahamadou SANA confirms his role as the driving force behind an ambitious national security policy—where technology, institutional coordination, and presidential vision come together to build a safer Burkina Faso.
