Burkina Faso: A mobile police station to bring security closer to citizens

In the Nagrin neighborhood of Ouagadougou, an unusual truck is drawing attention. It carries neither goods nor passengers, but a promise: that of closer and more accessible security. Launched on September 2, 2025, Burkina Faso’s first mobile police station marks a major step in bringing security services closer to citizens.

The principle is simple yet revolutionary: bringing the police where they are most needed. In a rapidly growing capital where some areas still feel far from public services, this mobile unit fills a gap. It is not only about a security presence but also about offering practical services that make everyday life easier for residents.

In practice, the mobile police station provides administrative services such as issuing national identity cards (CNIB) and certifying documents, directly in the heart of neighborhoods. Alongside these services, it enhances vigilance against petty crime, strengthens the sense of safety, and builds a direct link between the police and the community.

This initiative reflects a profound shift in the way security is conceived. No longer confined to waiting for citizens at police offices, the police now go directly to them. This mobility offers a pragmatic response to security challenges and to the expectations of a society seeking greater proximity and responsiveness.

For Burkinabe citizens, the benefits are tangible: fewer trips to access police services, shorter processing times for administrative procedures, and above all, a safer environment thanks to a visible and proactive police presence.

Although still in its early stages, the project already carries a strong promise of building shared security, where the State and citizens work together to make neighborhoods safer and more peaceful. Expanding this initiative to other localities appears essential to effectively address national challenges. With this mobile police station, security ceases to be an abstraction and becomes a tangible reality, directly serving the people of Burkina Faso.
