Eto’o’s inner circle shrinks as another teammate quits FECAFOOT

Benoit Angbwa

Benita Angbwa, former Cameroon international and ex-teammate of Samuel Eto’o, has resigned as Deputy Secretary General of Cameroon’s Football Federation (FECAFOOT), citing “toxic working conditions.”

The 40-year-old, who played alongside Eto’o for both Cameroon and Anzhi Makhachkala, accused current Secretary General Isaac Mandong of “psychological harassment” in his resignation letter.

This marks the sixth former teammate to depart Eto’o’s administration since 2022, following exits by Djemba-Djemba, Atouba, and others.

Angbwa’s departure comes after a turbulent year that saw him demoted from National Teams Coordinator last October during a staff restructuring.

While Eto’o’s presidency has brought reforms, these recurring resignations raise questions about management style at FECAFOOT.

The federation now faces dual challenges: replacing another key official while containing the fallout from fresh workplace misconduct allegations.

With Cameroon preparing for 2025 AFCON qualifiers, the timing couldn’t be worse for the embattled football body.
