Niger/Two from the CNSP: President Abdourahamane Tiani addresses the people. Between truth, vision, determination, and a call for national unity

Two years after the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) came to power, Nigerien President, General Abdourahamane Tiani, addressed the nation in what marked a moment of political truth. Far from a triumphalist tone, he chose a solemn, clear-eyed, and almost introspective approach: acknowledging expectations, confronting challenges, and redefining ambitions.

President Tiani began by openly recognizing the immense expectations of the Nigerien people and the socio-economic challenges his government is facing. He affirmed that failure is not an option, emphasizing that the national recovery mission is difficult but necessary.

He positioned himself as a transitional leader—not elected, but entrusted with a historic mission: to rebuild the state on sovereign and equitable foundations. His denunciation of past foreign influences, along with his strong endorsement of the Alliance of Sahel States, signals a clear geopolitical shift. The President called for patience and resilience, while promising tangible results in the short term—an effort to strengthen the bond of trust between the government and the people.

Finally, his speech was also a call for national unity and collective commitment to the transformation agenda. He rejected populism and emphasized a methodical governance approach: acting with discipline through adversity, so that sovereignty is not merely proclaimed but truly embodied. The focus now turns to results—a non-negotiable condition for consolidating the CNSP’s legitimacy and ensuring the sustainability of the path it has chosen.
