Mali: The Malian army repels a terrorist attack in Mourdiah

The military positions in Mourdiah, Mali, were the target of a complex attack carried out by armed terrorist groups. In a statement released on Tuesday, the military hierarchy confirmed that the Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) swiftly responded to this attack on the Mourdiah camp.

The statement emphasizes the professionalism of the FAMA, which enabled them to regain their position against the terrorist aggression.

However, significant material damage and loss of human lives were reported on both sides, highlighting the intensity of the confrontation.

The Malian forces’ response not only involved defending the Mourdiah camp. The statement specifies that the deployment of special forces and aerial assets was strategic, allowing for the observation and destruction of several terrorist targets retreating in the Naoulena sector, a neighboring locality.

The attack on the Mourdiah camp was claimed by the Support Group for Islam and Muslims, led by Iyad Ag Ghaly.

This terrorist leader had previously claimed responsibility for other recent attacks, including in Dinangourou in the Bandiangra region and Labezanga in the Gao region.

The security situation in Mali remains concerning, with these recurrent terrorist attacks highlighting the persistent challenges facing the Malian army.

The swift and effective response of the FAMA demonstrates their commitment to ensuring national security, but the events also underscore the need to strengthen international efforts to stabilize the region and counter the terrorist threat.
