Togo: Strengthening security measures at land borders, the government focuses on prevention and protection

Faced with cross-border threats and organized crime, the Togolese government, through the Ministry of Security and Civil Protection, has demonstrated a clear determination to protect the national territory and ensure public safety. To this end, it has ordered the reinforcement of control and surveillance measures along the western border of Lomé.

The closure of unauthorized crossing points, the reorganization of surveillance operations, and the establishment of pedestrian immigration posts at Ségbé and Aflao reflect a balanced approach—combining firmness with consideration for the daily lives of border communities.

This security strategy falls within a preventive framework and provides tailored responses to contemporary challenges, such as the fight against drug trafficking, human trafficking, smuggling, and the circulation of weapons. It reflects proactive governance committed to safeguarding territorial integrity while ensuring the smooth flow of legal exchanges.

By calling for citizen cooperation and announcing the progressive extension of this system to other regions, the Togolese government reaffirms a coherent and inclusive vision of national security. This reinforcement deserves recognition as an important step toward a more vigilant, responsive administration that is closely attuned to realities on the ground.
