Mali: Malian meat opens up to the world under the “Malisogo” label

Mali has taken a decisive step in promoting its agri-food resources. All meat intended for export will now carry the “Malisogo” label, certified by the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI). This regional recognition marks a major milestone for the sector, which involves over 30% of the rural population and represents one of the pillars of the national economy.

The labeling provides Malian products with a guarantee of quality and traceability, essential for competing in international markets.

Stakeholders in the sector have welcomed this development with enthusiasm. For breeders, butchers, processors, and traders, the certification is seen as a recognition of traditional Malian expertise. It also opens new opportunities for exports and access to more demanding markets, where the added value of the product becomes a genuine economic asset.

Experts and economists view the labeling as a strategic development tool. It will attract investments, boost local production, and create more jobs in rural areas.

Furthermore, it strengthens Mali’s economic sovereignty by highlighting a competitive and high-value national product.
