Togo: D’pontre N’nidak, 61 years of tradition and unity celebrated in Grand Bassar

This weekend, the people of Grand Bassar celebrated the climax of the traditional D’pontre N’nidak festival, dedicated to the tasting of the new yam. For its 61st edition, the ceremony was attended by several personalities, including State Minister Yark Damehame, representing the council president.

Held under the theme of “Inclusive Development of the Bassar and Konkomba Peoples,” the festival reaffirmed its role as a bridge between the two communities while highlighting their shared cultural identity. It was also an opportunity to give thanks for the harvest, reflect on the past year, and look ahead to the new farming season.

In his address, the State Minister praised the people’s attachment to their traditions and agricultural know-how, emphasizing the importance of this celebration as a lever for local development.

The event concluded in a festive atmosphere, enlivened by folklore dances, artistic performances, and the tasting of dishes made with the new yam, a symbol of prosperity and unity.
