Mali: Assimi Goïta satisfied with the results achieved by the army in 2023
Colonel Assimi Goïta, the President of the transitional government, expressed his satisfaction on Friday regarding the achievements on the ground by the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa).
During a New Year’s wishes ceremony for the military in Bamako, the President highlighted his great satisfaction, particularly for the incident-free withdrawal of foreign forces from Mali after a decade of perceived ineffective presence.
According to the President, the results achieved in 2023 bode well for a more secure future in ensuring the safety of individuals and property across the national territory.
This gathering also provided an opportunity for the President to reiterate his commitment to take all necessary measures to maintain the efficiency of the country’s defense apparatus at an unprecedented level.
He expressed the hope that the military continues to enhance its capabilities for successful joint operations, both current and future, within the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), composed of Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali.
General Oumar Diarra, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, noted that the state’s support had contributed to improving the living and working conditions of the FAMa, strengthening their operational capabilities, and maintaining excellent coherence between political, operational, and tactical levels.
Despite the achievements of the past year, General Diarra emphasized that the mission remains unchanged as terrorists retain the capacity to cause harm, demonstrated through the placement of improvised explosive devices, cattle theft, attacks on civilians, and exerting pressure on the population to fuel communal tensions.
The reconquest of territory continues, and the military remains committed to ensuring the security of the Malian people.
