Togo/Environment: President Faure GNASSINGBE takes a symbolic but significant step

The President of the Togolese Republic, Faure Gnassingbé, is deeply committed to environmental protection. This commitment is reflected in his annual tree-planting campaigns aimed at creating green spaces and fostering exceptional vegetative cover to mitigate the effects of climate change.

His symbolic gesture in the Lacs Prefecture, a maritime region, holds great significance.

During the government’s off-site seminar in Aného, President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé personally planted a noteworthy young sapling: the Baobab.

This tree, once matured, provides sustenance for humans, shelter for both humans and animals, and contributes significantly to environmental protection.

Experts note that the Baobab, which is more commonly found in the northern region of Togo, is the only tree that withstands drought.

As deforestation and desertification threaten Togo, there is an urgent need to plant more of these resilient trees.

Researchers argue that nations should prioritize the protection of such trees, which have proven their worth in environmental protection while maintaining a healthy ecosystem.

By planting this sapling, President Gnassingbé addresses the critical concern of environmental protection through resilient trees that offer nutritional and protective benefits.
