Nigeria: 137 pupils kidnapped in Kuirga freed, according to the army

137 students, including 76 girls and 61 boys, who were abducted by armed groups in the central-north region on March 7th, have been rescued, according to the Nigerian military.

The students were found in the neighboring state of Zamfara, as confirmed by Major General Edward Buba, the Nigerian Army spokesperson.

Following these mass abductions, the Nigerian military conducted extensive operations in the region where several armed groups operate, often taking civilians, including women and children, as hostages for ransom through kidnapping.

These recent kidnappings in Kuriga marked the first major abduction in the country since 2021 when over 150 students were abducted from a high school in Kaduna.
